Principal's Welcome

Dear Falcon Families,

Galena Elementary School (GALES), the proud home of the mighty Falcons, is a small rural school of approximately 166 students. GALES meets the needs of students living in the northern portion of Kent County. The population of GALES is reflective of the many communities that it serves. Two incorporated towns, Galena and Betterton, are all found within the school’s attendance boundaries. Many smaller villages and hamlets with traditional roots are a part of this rural school—Kennedyville, Still Pond, parts of the Worton area, Coleman, Sandfield, Kentmore Park, Chesterville, Georgetown, and Sassafras. The staff and students at GALES work to create a positive and welcoming learning environment where ALL students can succeed.

Galena Elementary School Mission

The faculty and staff of Galena Elementary School work to foster and promote essential knowledge and skills to prepare ALL students to become productive citizens and lifelong learners so that they can SOAR! (Safety, Organization, Achievement, Respect)

Galena Elementary School Vision

At Galena Elementary School, we work to ensure that ALL children grow and learn socially and academically so that they can reach their full potential. Galena Elementary School aligns instruction to adhere to state and county standards to best provide enriching learning opportunities so that students gain knowledge and problem solving strategies in order to become lifelong learners and future leaders. The faculty and staff, students, and parents of Galena Elementary School work together to provide a safe and caring environment that values creative thinking, problem solving, and respect for individual differences.

Galena Elementary School Collective Commitments

At GALES, our teachers have committed to:

  1. Developing lessons that are rigorous and aligned to the Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards.

  2. Using data to make decisions about student learning, interventions and enrichment activities.

  3. Participating in system and school-based Professional Learning Communities

  4. Establishing a school environment that is clean, organized, and positive.

  5. Providing for ongoing engagement and communication with families and community groups.

Personalized Learning
We are very fortunate at GALES to have a 1 to 1 technology device match for all students in K through 5th grades. GALES utilizes such resources as Discovery Education, ConnectEd, DreamBox, MAP assessments, etc... to gather data and personalize instruction to enhance student learning. These resources allow us to ensure that we utilize our daily school-wide WIN (What I Need) time effectively to best meet the educational goals of ALL students.

We look forward to welcoming you when you visit or volunteer at our school. Please call GALES at 410-810-2510 if you have any questions. Let's make the 2016-2017 school year a great one for learning and growing. Go Falcons!

Sincerely,
Amy S. Crowding
Principal
